Oman?s Chances at the Soccer Gulf Cup, Abu Dhabi

Click Here To Know How To Play The Best Soccer of Your Life

The much awaited soccer Gulf Cup in Abu Dhabi, UAE will commence on the 17th of January, 2007. The opening match will feature the biggest rivals in the region, the Sultanate of Oman and the host country, the United Arab Emirates.

The setting for this gulf cup has been pretty much identical to the 2004 one in Qatar in which 8 countries have been divided into 2 groups. Oman has been fixed in group A that also includes the UAE, Yemen and Kuwait.

At first glance, it looks like the Sultanate of Oman has finally managed to evade the group of death and has, this time around, fallen into the easier group out of the two. That being said, it is now faced with a very difficult task of battling it out with the host country in the opening match of the tournament.

In a recent survey on SoccerBlaze!, 66% of the participants voted that the Sultanate would acquire either third or fourth berth. 27% responded that Oman will exit from the group stages and 5% said that it will reach the final match, which will be a repeat of 2004. Let us have a closer look at group A and analyze our chances of success.

Sultanate of Oman?s Preparations

Our preparation for the Gulf Cup started (or should have started) after the match against UAE in the Asian Cup qualifiers. We lost 0-3 to Jordan in Amman in the qualifiers and 2-0 to a youth Iraqi team and 1-0 in the Asian Games in Doha. I am sorry, I couldn?t resist being sarcastic. Our beloved coach Milan Macala has set up a training camp in Qatar which, according to officials, includes a match against the Qatari national team.

United Arab Emirates soccer team

Just like Oman, UAE has never won the Gulf Cup. They however have the home advantage this time and an excellent coach, who also happens to be the one that performed wonders with Senegal leading them to the quarter finals of the 2002 World Cup, Bruno Metsu. With these factors in mind, the UAE seems to have a more than decent chance of qualification to the knockout stages of the competition.

Sultanate of Oman?s last two encounters with the UAE were in the Asian Cup qualification rounds. Oman lost 1-0 away from home in UAE but then redeemed the loss with a 2-1 win in Muscat. It is worth mentioning that the UAE?s performance has declined considerably since 2004. The Sultanate has a decent chance of beating the UAE but my vote unfortunately goes to the Emirates as I believe the opening match, home advantage and the crowd will all work in the favour of the UAE and prove to be too overwhelming for Oman.

Kuwait soccer team

On the 20th of January, Oman will meet Kuwait, in a repeat of the opening match of the Gulf Cup in Kuwait in 2003. Kuwait are the competition?s record title winners with 9 titles in their pockets, winning 7 out of the first 10 Gulf Cups. Kuwait has however slipped out of contention in the last few years and most recently by failing to qualify to the Asian Cup in 2007, losing out to Australia and Bahrain. Football in Kuwait seems to be in its worse ever state and calling it a crisis would not be an exaggeration.

I believe Oman has the capacity to beat Kuwait and I hope that they do. I also believe that Kuwait will come into this match with 3 points already in hand following its match against Yemen. Therefore, anything but a win against Kuwait means the end of our venture in Abu Dhabi.

Yemen soccer team

Yemen is the weakest team in the region and have played only 2 Gulf Cup tournaments to date. Their best two results in the competition were a draw against Bahrain and a draw against, yes you guessed it right, the Sultanate of Oman. Throwing Yemen into the mix up does however cause one or two problems to the other teams in the group if it managed to pull out shocking results like the ones against Oman and Bahrain, respectively.

Summary

I am sorry but I just can?t think of Oman as the winners of the Gulf Cup and I think you can excuse me for not comprehending this fact being an Omani that is used to the first place backwards. However, I believe Oman can make it to the knockout stages and ultimately to the third versus fourth match. Once again this is all dependant upon which Oman side shows up in Abu Dhabi, is it the side that were runner ups in Qatar in 2004? Or is it the side that was and easy prey for Jordan, Iraq and China in 2006?

How To Improve Your Soccer Bets Using The Simple Sequence Method

Click Here To Know How To Play The Best Soccer of Your Life

How To Improve Your Soccer Bets is a series of articles that describe some well known and well used statistical techniques that will help the soccer punter make more informed bets. Each of the techniques has its own advantages and disadvantages and using them in isolation will improve your chances of winning. However, together they will prove invaluable in your battle with the bookies. In each article we will describe in detail how a particular method works giving you enough information for you to go ahead and create your own forecasts. We will also give you information as to where you can already find websites that use this technique in comprising their weekly forecasts.

The statistical methods described in this set of articles will help you to arrive at a better decision about the match, or matches, that you are betting on.

In this article we will be describing the well known Simple Sequence method. The Simple Sequence method is not just a single method, there are many ways of devising a simple sequence method, and you could probably devise one of your own. The way the Simple Sequence method is implemented in the Footyforecast 2.0 software and on the 1X2Monster website is to use a weighting factor on each of a series of games.

Here are the basic rules...

A number of matches are used to look back at from the forecast date. So let's say our team has the following results (most recent on the right hand side):

W D L L W

This would give them the following points: 3 + 1 + 0 + 0 + 3 = 7

Now to take into account current form each is given a weighting factor, so the oldest match is multiplied by 1 up to the most recent match being multiplied by 5. Of course this will vary depending upon the number of matches you use, but for this example it gives us the following:

3*1 + 1*2 + 0*3 + 0*4 + 3*5 = 20 points

Now let's say the away team playing against the team above have the following record:

W W D D D

They will have: 3*1 + 3*2 + 1*3 + 1*4 + 1*5 = 21 points.

The points difference HOME v AWAY = 20 - 21 = -1.

Now, depending how you classify this it could represent an away win, i.e. all matches below a points difference of 0 = away win, or it could be classed as a draw.

Let's look at a simple example...

For our example we will use the last ten games played for each team. That's the last ten home games for the home side, and the last ten away games for the away side. The match is between Middlesbrough and Bolton Wanderers in the English Premiership played on 20th Jan 2007.

Middlesbrough

L L W W W D L D W W

This gives 0*1 + 0*2 + 3*3 + 3*4 + 3*5 + 1*6 + 0*7 + 1*8 + 3*9 + 3*10

This equals 0+0+9+12+15+6+0+8+27+30 = 107

Bolton

L W W W D L L W W L

This gives 0*1 + 3*2 + 3*3 + 3*4 + 1*5 + 0*6 + 0*7 + 3*8 + 3*9 + 0*10

this equals 0+6+9+12+5+0+0+24+27+0 = 83

Therefore the difference is

107 - 83 = +24

This could be determined as a home win but depending on your chosen threshold levels could be classed as a draw.

Now it's your turn...

Of course you may choose to use different values to those shown above and by experimenting you may come up with better values to use. You may also choose to use all home and away games played by each team in your calculations instead of just home games for the home team and away games for the away team. You may choose to have different thresholds than those shown above. You may also find it beneficial to plot actual results against the Simple Sequence method predictions to see how many actual draws fall in the away win, draw, and home win prediction zones.

If you have the necessary skills you could go away and build your own spreadsheet of data or even write a piece of software to take in results and fixtures and apply the Simple Sequence method to your data. Or, if you're lazy like me, you could grab some free software that already does this for you. If this last option is for you then visit 1X2Monster where you can download a FREE copy of the Footyforecast 2.0 software which utilises all of the statistical methods described in this series of articles. You will also be able to download FREE weekly database updates for your software, how cool is that?

The Soccer Ball - An Ageless Entertainment

Click Here To Know How To Play The Best Soccer of Your Life

It is said that thousands of years ago, South American Indians already kicked an elasticized ball for fun. They used things such as heads, skulls, stitched up cloth and pig or cow bladders. The Chinese played "tsu chu" where animal skin balls were dribbled through gaps in a net stretched between two poles. The actual soccer ball only came after a few thousand years. Ancient Egyptian rites are said to have similarities with soccer, and both the ancient Greeks and Romans also played a game that entailed carrying and kicking a ball.

The more irregular the bladders used as balls were, the more unpredictable was its behavior. After Charles Goodyear patented vulcanized rubber, he designed the first rubber soccer ball (football). It was only in the twentieth century that rubber bladders were began to be used in most balls. In 1862 Lindon developed one of the first rubber bladders for balls, probably inspired because of the ill effects of blowing animal bladders, after his wife died of lung disease.

The soccer ball is an air filled sphere with a circumference of 68-70 cm, weight 210-250 g, covered in leather or other suitable material. Most of the modern balls are stitched with 32 panels of water proof leather or plastic and the colors are usually black and white. Over the years balls have become lighter. Older Balls were usually stitched with 18 oblong leather panels. The problem is that these balls were very heavy. Though in the last world cup in 2006 the ball is stitched with 14 panels and the colour isn't the usual black and white. By reducing the amount of panels used the more accurate a shot with that ball will be, because with the fewer the amount of panels the more perfect the circumference becomes.

The black and white colors on the soccer ball were defined so that it could be seen better on monochrome televisions, but in cases like playing in the snow the soccer balls have different colours such as yellow or orange. The soccer ball used in the World Cup 2006 final is golden with white and black details. Some soccer ball brands are developing new technologies such as using foam as part of the composition of the ball or even having rings so that goalkeepers can determine the spin of the ball.

Nowadays there are many brands that make soccer balls, amongst which are the famous ones such as Adidas, Nike, Mitre, etc. About 80% of the association soccer balls are made in Pakistan, and 75% of these are made in the city of Sialkot.

As soccer is the most popular sport in the world you can find a soccer ball almost in every place on the planet. It doesn't matter if it's called football, soccer, fussball, futebol or f?tbol, one will always find some soccer ball being kicked around, even in countries were the sport isn't as popular as in Brazil, Argentina, England, or Germany. Soccer balls are even used in peace campaigns, with special games as on with team with players from Palestine and Israel, playing side by side in a same team united by the same soccer ball.

Why Should Children Be Encouraged To Play Soccer?

Click Here To Know How To Play The Best Soccer of Your Life

In today's media we are constantly being reminded of a health time bomb that is about to explode as children today are not active enough.

There are so many competing distractions for our children's attention, video games, endless channels to watch, these can all lead to sedentary lifestyle if they are not kept in check.

Soccer is the beautiful game, played by millions of young girls and boys (aged 6 to 18) across many continents, whether it's on the beaches of Rio, the back alleys of a major city nearby or the local park, you will find someone kicking a football around.

In today's society there has been a shift to more organised soccer practice for our youth players. Gone are the days of jumpers for goal posts, as streets are littered with cars and grass verges now have houses built on them.

Having a more structured approach is both a good and a bad thing; on one hand young players get structured development and education through willing volunteers who show them how everything from how to warm up correctly, develop their technical ability with the ball right through to skill development and organised small sided games to wrap everything up together to provide a total learning experience.

Today time is limited and therefore there may be only an hour or two devoted to structured soccer practice during the week, what happens when practice is over?

Getting your child to participate in an organised soccer school or club can bring tremendous benefits to you and your child.

Soccer can help increase your child's self esteem, which feeds their self talk which ultimately drives their performance. But soccer isn't the only winner, quite often it can be seen that academic performance can increases to!

Studies have shown that getting young children involved in soccer at an early stage promotes a real healthy attitude towards the game and this attitude continues with them into adult life.

The number one reason why children play soccer is to have fun; if soccer is fun and enjoyable then players will want to continue playing. This benefits their overall fitness and reduces their health risks considerably.

Soccer is made fun by coaches worldwide who willingly give up their time voluntarily to organise youth soccer practice and coach teams.

Gone are the days when soccer, for the really young players, was an 11 a side game with offside rules and no touches of the ball for massive periods of the game.

Youth soccer from the age of 6 to 11 is typically about having fun, playing small sided matches such as 4 v 4 with no goal keepers, promoting lots of touches of the ball and player interaction on the pitch.

Through playing soccer and encouraging children to take regular exercise many of the risk factors that are associated with heart disease such as obesity and diabetes can be reduced significantly. It is stated that childhood obesity has increased by more than 50% since 1976, which is a really scary fact.

Getting your child involved in soccer doesn't just improve their health. We've mentioned already the improvements at school.

Social benefits, such as mixing with others, having to work as a team, contributing through individual effort to a collective goal, experiencing the highs and lows, picking each other up, competition, striving to be the best, aiming to win and supporting and helping others are all by products of playing soccer.

Many of the life skills that the players learn through soccer are beneficial in later life, how to form and build relationships, developing a sense of co-operation, how to lead people, how to handle adversity, what commitment means and punctuality, are all key qualities that will benefit the players in adult life.

If your child is already playing soccer, great. But what can you do if you want to get your child involved in a local soccer team? Here are seven must ask questions that you and your child should consider when attempting to find a suitable club...

1) What level of commitment is required in terms of practice sessions and games at the weekend?

2) When are the training sessions? When are games played, what's the format and how much time will you need to devote?

3) How far are you willing to travel to training and to matches? Some clubs will operate travel teams where distances can be considerable, including overnight stops.

4) What are the costs involved? Some clubs adopt a pay when you play, others a more structured approach. The most expensive clubs are not always the best, ask yourself is what your paying in the equivalent to what your child is getting out?

5) What do you and your child want out of playing soccer? This needs to be aligned with the prospective clubs philosophy, is it about having fun or winning?

6) How best will your child learn, develop and stay interested? Are they happy just to be involved or would they thrive in a more competitive environment?

7)What is the clubs constitution and philosophy to soccer, how long have they been in existence, the experience of the coaches, location, facilities etc.

Once you have considered the above questions what are your next steps to finding a suitable club or soccer organisation for your child?

You can...

i) Get in touch with your local Soccer Association by searching the web or looking in yellow pages. They should be able to provide you with a list of clubs and organisations in your local area.

ii) Ask other parents/guardians about local junior and youth soccer teams. You'll be surprised at how many adults or their children are involved.

iii) Encourage you children to ask their school mates where they play their soccer. Knowing some of the team can be a real advantage as players integrate themselves into a team.

iv) Ask your child's form tutor or headmaster if they know of any clubs or organisations. Many clubs have formed good relationships with the schools over the years.

v) Read the local papers or local news websites you'll be amazed at how much coverage youth and junior soccer gets.

These five practical steps should enable you to find a club that meets yours and your child's soccer aspirations. However, if there still isn't a club near you that can satisfy a need why not look to set up your own team!

Soccer Betting Secrets No.1 - Never Bet When You Cannot Afford To Loose

Click Here To Know How To Play The Best Soccer of Your Life

This golden rule is the simplest rule to understand yet the hardest rule to stick by for most punters. Every gambler who has hit a winning streak or a losing streak has fallen into the trap and gambled away money they couldn't afford to lose. DON'T DO IT!! As simple as it may sound - You just can't do it. Stick to this first golden rule and drill it deep down inside your brain that this rule cannot be broken. Why I say this is because there's consequences if you break this rule.

It is very easy to fall into the trap that because you are winning, then bigger stakes won't hurt (after all - it's the bookies money right?) or if you are losing then you think that you put a little bit more on this 'certainty' you can get your money back. DON'T DO IT!! As simple as it may sound - You just can't do it.

It is the gambler's curse. Win or lose this time, it will lead to disaster in the long-term. Bigger stakes on a winning streak are a sure way of guaranteeing that the bookies get back every single cent you won off them - and a lot quicker than even they anticipated. DON'T DO IT!! As simple as it may sound - You just can't do it.

The safest way to get as much thrill and enjoyment out of the gambling experience is to work out how much money you can afford to lose before you start. Betting big when you are losing is a sure-fire way to lose your rent, food money for the week or maybe months or years. DON'T DO IT!! As simple as it may sound - You just can't do it.

Remember - before you place a bet - imagine how you'll feel if when the bet loses. If the thought of losing it makes you feel sick or feel like jumping off a 35 storey high building ... then don't ever break this GOLDEN RULE NO.1

2010 Soccer World Cup South Africa

Click Here To Know How To Play The Best Soccer of Your Life

South Africa has been given the opportunity to host the world's greatest event in 2010. Since, South Africa is a country in Africa, many people are skeptic about the prospects of a SA Soccer World Cup. However, South Africa is in MANY respects a developed country with a modern infrastructure and economy. Many areas in SA will match the average American neighborhood. The average South African is far better off than the average African, but the wealth inequality is huge - especially between rich and poor - black and white - although, after apartheid, more than two million black people entered the middle class. It's good to see that so many black people (although it's only a small portion of the black population) take now part in the economy. It's important for the stability of the country. The black middle class is one of the reasons why SA has it's longest run of economic growth in its history.

People's main concern is the safety and security situation in South Africa. As a resident of the beautiful city of Cape Town, I can assure you that the tourist areas are really safe to visit. Yes, crime against tourists have been reported like anywhere else in the world. Just take common sense precautions and you'll be fine. South Africa is a magnificent and diverse country and the scenery absolutely prolific. It's the closet you'll get to paradise! Visit South Africa in 2010 - you'll be surprised how developed, friendly, diverse and beautiful this country is!

Soccer Technique: How To Kick The Ball.

Click Here To Know How To Play The Best Soccer of Your Life

Kicking

There are many different ways of kicking the ball. In order to kick the ball to the direction that we want, it requires high level of skills. Kicking methods can be divided as follows;

Kick the ball by using foot instep

When using foot instep to kick, make sure that the foot you use be fully bent downward and the foot instep should fully touch the ball. Once the foot touch the ball, the ball have to skim to the ground. Importantly when you kick the ball, if position if the knee is too much lean forward to the ball?s position, the direction of the ball will heading down, and then touch the ground before it reach target, which effect to the ball speed. On the other hand, if the knee is too much lean backward to the ball?s position when kicking, the ball will rise up and not go to the desired direction. Therefore, you have to make sure that the knee is in the right direction, not too forward and backward. The foot that not use for kick, put it beside the ball and make sure it is away form the ball around 4-12 inches. Focus on the ball all the time you are kicking.

Run and kick

Run and kick is often use during the game and this method of kicking is quite difficult to do as you seem to have no time to do the kick exactly as instructions. However, The right position when you have to kick while you are running, make sure that you are close to the ball as much as possible. Put the standing foot beside the ball and bend down your knee a little bit, your shoulders and head slightly lean forward. Swing the leg that use for kick fully stretch. Your head should bend down until you kick the ball completely, and always focus on the target that you want to kick to ball to.

Kick the ball by using inside of the foot

This figure is the simplest method to kick the ball, often used when we need to pass the ball to others, because by using this method, you can control the direction of the ball completely and it has the most accuracy. To do this figure, bend down both of your knees a bit when kicking and push the kicking leg follow through after touch the ball.

Kick the ball by using heel

This method of kicking mostly used for trick the person who try to snatch the ball from you and this method is very simple. Firstly, you have to step or jump over the ball, pretending you want to carry the ball forward, then immediately use the heel to punch the ball, pass it to the back direction. This figure require a bit of skills and accuracy when you use heel to kick the ball, because at a time of kicking the ball will be at your back and will not be able to see it. So you need to estimate about the ball?s position in order to kick it correctly.

Here's a quiz to see if you are facing a problem: * Did you ever lose time from work due to gambling? * Has gambling ever made your home life unhappy? * Did gambling affect your reputation? * Have you ever felt remorse after gambling? * Did you ever gamble to get money with which to pay debts or otherwise solve financial difficulties? * Did gambling cause a decrease in your ambition or efficiency? * After losing did you feel you must return as soon as possible and win back your losses? * After a win did you have a strong urge to return and win more? * Did you often gamble until your last dollar was gone? * Did you ever borrow to finance your gambling? * Have you ever sold anything to finance gambling? * Were you reluctant to use "gambling money" for normal expenditures? * Did gambling make you careless of the welfare of yourself or your family? * Did you ever gamble longer than you had planned? * Have you ever gambled to escape worry or trouble? * Have you ever committed, or considered committing, an illegal act to finance gambling? * Did gambling cause you to have difficulty in sleeping? * Do arguments, disappointments or frustrations create within you an urge to gamble? * Did you ever have an urge to celebrate any good fortune by a few hours of gambling? * Have you ever considered self destruction or suicide as a result of your gambling? Most problem gamblers will answer yes to at least seven of these questions. Seek family support and professional help if you think you are experiencing problem gambling.

When Not to Gamble

When you are emotionally affected, betting may seem like an attractive distraction. However, you are also more susceptible to playing beyond your control. Do not gamble: * When feeling lonely, depressed or under stress * When coping with the death or loss of a loved one * When trying to solve a personal or family problem * When trying to impress others

Betting should be fun. It should be under your control. Do not let it control you or your life instead.

While it may appear that soccer gambling addictions are solely pleasure-seeking behaviors, the roots of this addiction can also be traced to a wish to suppress or avoid some kind of emotional pain. In the broadest sense, addictive gambling is gambling behavior which causes disruptions in any major area of life: psychological, physical, social or vocational. Addictive gambling is sometimes referred to as the "hidden illness," because there are no visible physical symptoms. A person can be like any normal person, behave like a normal person but deep inside, it's the behavior when losing on a bet that can disrupt many major areas of life.

Soccer is a beautiful game and so does soccer gambling if you know your limit. Just betting without getting carried away is ok but not to the extend of borrowing from other people just to fulfill your addiction.

Many people bet on soccer hoping to get rich quick but most of the time, they end up worst than before. This will only occur if you hope too much from soccer betting. You want to buy a nice big car, nice big home from the money you win in soccer betting. When this happen, you will tend to bet bigger in order to achieve you dreams faster thus you are breaking the law of betting that is not to bet over your limit.

There are only 2 scenarios when you bet over your limit. One is if you make it, you'll be off twice or even three times richer. Second is if you don't make it. This is where when all kind of problems start to occur. My advise to all soccer punters, make this game beautiful and bet wisely. There are many betting strategies that you can get from the internet. Some are good realiable guides and some are not. Look around a put some effort on studying the betting odds if you are really serious about soccer betting. You can get a guide from http://www.soccerbettingpro.com

Soccer Punting - The Good And The Bad

Everybody loves money and money can be the driven factor to make us work hard. There are many ways of making money, be it online or even offline.

In this article, I am going to educate you how you can make huge money from soccer punting, something like investing in stocks and shares. This investment involves a lot of risk. But the risk can be minimized if you know what you are doing. What game to bet on and when to bet. In fact, everything we do involves risk. It's only a matter of minimizing the risk.

I have been involved in soccer punting for more than 12 years and I can say that I am now making a steady stream of income from the bookmakers. It all comes with experience. My earlier days of soccer punting are a nightmare because I don't know how to analyze and look at the game. I have lost lots of money and nearly went bankrupt. But I never give up and try my very best to find a way to beat the system. I tried and studied many ways and try to find signals in the odds which are being offered by the bookmakers. I jot down every single movement of the odds and studied. After few years of loosing money in soccer punting, I finally make my break through. I have found the secrets of the odds being offered by the bookmakers.

Bookmakers know what's the outcome of the game will be and if we can also roughly know what the outcome of the game will be, it will be big fat bonus for us. It's like discovering a gold mind!!

I will share one secret that I have found after years of studying the odds. I wrote a guide on "Make Your Bookie Your ATM Machine". It is my pleasure after all these years of hard work, it finally pays of by discovering the few secret signals that bookmakers don't want you to know. If you are thinking of making serious money from the bookmaker, I would recommend you to read this guide. You can get it from http://www.soccerbettingpro.com and I don't know how long it will be there until I get ban from the bookmakers for revealing this secret.

As I promised earlier, I will share one secret. This is a powerful signal to look out for. It is called the Fixed Match Signal. Believe it or not, most soccer games are fixed. Most of the big clubs around the world are being sponsored by the bookmakers. So what makes you think that the bookmakers don't already know the outcome of the result? Here's the secret - If a strong team playing at home ground against a much weaker team and the strong team did not even give a handicap, this game is as good as a fixed match for the strong team not to win. This is to lure punters to take on the strong team which is playing at home ground. But don't be fooled by this kind of odds. Have faith to bet against the strong team if this kind of odds occurs.

Do check out my guide "Make Your Bookie Your ATM Machine". You will not want to miss out on all the signals that I have discovered. http://www.soccerbettingpro.com

World Cup Soccer - Group A predictions for the World Cup Football tournament in Germany

Click Here To Know How To Play The Best Soccer of Your Life

World Cup group A places the home nation Germany against Costa Rica, Ecuador & Poland in a relatively easy group from which they should comfortably qualify.

Although the German team is not thought to be up to the standard of their previous victorious teams, bookmakers currently have them as joint second favourites behind Brazil, and they must be respected as possible winners on home soil.

It is difficult to see any of their three opponents being able to challenge them as Group A winners and it would appear that Costa Rica, Ecuador & Poland are competing for a chance to qualify in second spot.

History tells us that when the competition is played in Europe, the European nations tend to outperform the sides visiting from other continents. This coupled with Poland's impressive qualification from a difficult European qualifying stage must make the Poles most likely to progress along with the Germans. For the Poles, who will have an army of travelling supporters, the first game will be massively important, and a win over Ecuador in that game should ease their passage to the second stage.

Ecuador are a talented but temperamental outfit who must be respected, because on a good day they can match most national sides. Germany 2006 is only the second finals they have reached and they will be keen to add to their single victory from Japan 2002. Discipline may be a factor for Ecuador, and the strict refereeing of the Finals may not suit them.

Costa Rica will most probably be the groups whipping boys, first up for them is Germany in the tournament's opening game, a game they can't really expect to gain points from. Their second game against Ecuador will be the one that decides whether or not they can progress further in the Cup, and should provide good entertainment as both sides like to attack, sometimes at the detriment to their defensive duties.

It is difficult to see any other outcome than Germany topping Group A. Poland should take the second spot if successful in their first match versus Ecuador, but anything less than a win for them will give the edge to Ecuador. Costa Rica will probably sit at the foot of the table, unless they produce a couple of shocks...
